Lenovo: 100,000 LePhone Units Sold in June

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 In Blog, Featured Products / No Comments

    Daily Mobile Industry Snippets!

    Lenovo LePhones Units

Lenovo, a new manufacturer in the smartphone market, has sold 100,000 units in about a month. This is quite an achievement, considering the fact that the number of units sold is about the same number of iPhones sold when it was launched in China. Also, Lenovo is expecting to sell 1 million units by the end of the year.

Lenovo wants to make their smartphone popular in China first, before starting to sell it overseas. The smartphone market  may be a major factor in saving their profits from declining. A year ago, Lenovo suffered a $16 million loss, but now it has reportedly gained $54 million.

    T-Mobile Announces The G2, First HSPA+ Device

Thursday, August 19th, 2010 In Blog, Featured Products / No Comments

    Daily Mobile Industry Snippets!

    T-Mobile-G2

After so much speculation, T-Mobile has finally announced the arrival of the G2 by sending a short press release to the media and updating their HSPA+ handset teaser site. Details about the G2 with Google are still incomplete but it is more than we had before.

The G2 is a successor to the G1 launched about two years ago. It will be a Google experience phone, implying that it will host a stock version of Android 2.2. Another thing we can expect from this device is that it will be manufactured by HTC. Perhaps we can see this device at the upcoming press conference, September 15th.

The device will house a Qualcomm MSM7230, which has the same Scorpion CPU as previously commercialized in the Snapdragon QSD8x50 chipset found in other HTC phones and it has a clock speed of 800 MHz to 1 GHz. T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network supports speeds up to 21 Mbps, and this device has a theoretical peak capability of 14.4 Mbps. The HSPA+ network will deliver 4G-like speeds to 185 million people this year.

LG: Android Will Make Up 70% Of Smartphones Sold in 2010

Thursday, August 12th, 2010 In Blog / No Comments

    Daily Mobile Industry Snippets!

    LG Logo

Although LG has promised Microsoft that they will be one of their main partners for Windows Phone 7, they are going to sell many more Android phones. LG has predicted that 70% of their smartphone units sold this year will be based on Android.

This is in fact quite a jump for LG in the Android market, since they haven’t been one of the companies to promote Android the most on their phones. However, Android is helping them to catch up in sales quickly with the early adopter companies. It is expected that LG would sell 4.2 million Android phones by the end of 2010.

What LG needs to do is to produce some Android phones that can compete head-on with the best phones that other manufacturers such as HTC, Motorola or Samsung has put up in the maket. Also, another thing that LG could use to differentiate from others, is to not use a skin like the others do, but instead use stock Android. LG should allow fast updates from Google, and this can only happen if they don’t skin their phones. Making it easy for developers to root and make custom ROM’s for their phones could also help them stand out from the rest.

Android Tops The List Of Amazon’s Best Selling Smartphones

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010 In Blog, Featured Products / No Comments

    Daily Mobile Industry Snippets!

    Amazon Bestsellers List

Amazon, a popular resource and buying tool for someone intending to get anything from toothbrushes to electronics, shows that  Android is still the bestsellers in the smartphone and PDAs industry. Android held the top 9 spots.

To further prove Android’s dominance, the HTC EVO4G from Sprint is not included in this list because it is currently out of stock. Also, corporate purchases are usually made from the carriers so those numbers are not affecting these results at all.

Over last weekend, there were two non-Android phones that barely made it in to the top 10 of the list. The Microsoft Windows Mobile HTC HD2 and the Blackberry Bold 9700. Other than that, everything else was Android.
